Important Change to the TRT Board of Directors

Dear TRT Community,

I’m writing today to inform you of an important change to The Remembered Table’s Board of Directors.

We are committed to transparency, whether it be in our finances or in our next steps. Though this change will likely not affect your day-to-day experience with TRT, we want you to be made aware.

On January 1, we were notified by Jaime Coy, trauma therapist and chairperson of the TRT Board, that he is the subject of a formal complaint and pending hearing with his professional licensing board in the state of Texas. The complaint is unrelated to his involvement with TRT. The Board met on January 10 to discuss Jaime’s role on the Board and in TRT spaces.

As you know, our stated mission is to support wounded and weary Christians while helping connect in safety, and our values include being “people first” and “trauma aware.” Based on that vision of TRT, we felt we had enough information from what was provided to us to make decisions prior to the official hearing with the licensing board taking place.

During our meeting, we voted unanimously to …

1. Remove Jaime from his role as chairperson and as a member of the Board entirely, effective immediately.

2. Ban him from all The Remembered Table spaces for 2 years, at which time he may petition the current Board to review the documentation related to our decision and to determine if he may join any space.

Because our community is composed of individuals who experienced harm, abuse, or other forms of trauma at the hands of leaders they were meant to trust, we could not in good conscience allow our spaces to be put at risk by the presence of someone with his allegations and thus compromise your safety or our own integrity.

At this meeting, we have also committed to establishing official, clear, and stronger vetting processes and policies for potential new board members. We will discuss these processes and policies at our next Board meeting. While a more aggressive vetting wouldn’t have flagged anything in this particular case, we intend to use this as an opportunity to create additional safeguards for the TRT Community.

Our bylaws from the beginning were created with measures of accountability, including an annual organizational assessment by a third party for each fiscal year of operation. Our fiscal year will be complete in June, and we have been carefully documenting our process, communication, and actions to be included in that assessment.

If you have had any contact with Jaime that you feel may have been inappropriate or crossed personal boundaries, we would love to be informed in order to help resource you and to add it to our files for the aforementioned assessment to ensure all information is accounted for and considered to help guide us in the future.

If you have other questions or concerns for us related to Jaime, the role of the Board, or anything else TRT related, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email at info@rememberedtable.org. We will do our best to answer any questions to the extent we are able.
